I’ve been feeling left out when I'm with my 2 closest friends, they wait for each other to pack their bags, but they don't wait for me. Should I try to move on, or stay with them and try to fit in?
I think because they’re a close-ish friend, it could be worth having a simple sit-down chat with them about how you’ve been feeling. Try to explain that you feel like they haven’t been making as much effort, without making it sound like you’re blaming them. They might not even realise that their actions have been making you feel left out, so giving them the chance to understand could help.
At the same time, it could be really good to start making some other connections too. You could try joining a sport, a club, or a school activity, talking to people in your classes, sitting with different people at lunch, or finding people who have similar hobbies and interests. Having something in common can make it way easier to start talking to someone and build a friendship. You could even start small by saying hi to someone, asking them to hang out, or working with someone you don’t normally talk to.
And remember, you don’t have to stop being friends with this person just because you’re making other friendships. It’s actually healthy to have different people around you. Most importantly, you deserve friendships where you feel valued, included, supported and like the effort goes both ways. You shouldn’t have to chase someone just to feel like you belong constantly. There are lots of people out there who will appreciate you for who you are, so don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and give yourself the chance to find them
